Elevating Leadership Through Quality Time

As we approach the holiday season, I’d like to highlight the often underestimated yet powerful leadership development strategy: Quality time with loved ones. And humans!

I am not sure why I was shocked when I was on a website for creating a diagnostic (I hope you put your hand up to try my Beta version for Transformational and Dysfunctional Identities in the new year) one of the options was to talk to a human. As a human, taking time off is essential. Machines and AI work 24/7, but not you. Take care of you.

In the hustle of our professional lives, it’s easy to overlook the profound impact that moments spent with friends and family can have on our leadership skills. My brain is always looking for the utility of things, and yes quality time with them is essential for leadership. Research consistently shows that fostering meaningful connections outside the workplace contributes significantly to one’s ability to lead effectively.

There is value in shared laughter, genuine conversations, and the warmth of companionship. These experiences rejuvenate and enhance your leadership qualities—building empathy, communication skills, and resilience. Practice your active listening with Uncle George – I dare you.

Let’s not forget that insights for work can emerge from the most unexpected places. A casual conversation over dinner or a light-hearted moment during a family game night may spark innovative ideas or offer a fresh perspective on professional challenges.

Take a moment to reflect on the joy and lessons gained from your connections this year. let’s inspire each other to lead with a renewed sense of purpose in the coming year.

Take care,

Michelle
